Quarantine Day 48. In a weird way, Mondays still feel like Mondays despite SIP hitting two months now.

Quarantine Day 47. The only evidence that this day happened in my life is a Strava entry for Berkeley Bowl and 3 back-to-back-to-back Zoom meetings.

Quarantine Day 44. The last day of April. The last day of the first full month of self-quarantine. There's been a lot of talk about how the world will be forever changed by this pandemic...

Quarantine Day 43. When writing these entries, sometimes I wonder what I'll feel when I eventually read them later -- probably years later. Curious, most likely. I'd probably just skim, reminisce, then carry on with my day. I know this because Google Photos often reminds me where I was, and what I was doing, "on this day in year ____" every morning.

      • failed call to cuInit: CUDA_ERROR_UNKNOWN: unknown error

One of the most annoying errors while working with CUDA and TensorFlow is also one of the most cryptic: failed call to cuInit: CUDA_ERROR_UNKNOWN: unknown error. Now that I've encountered this a few times, here's my checklist of fixes to try.

Quarantine Day 42. For the umpteenth time, I woke up today thinking "Wow! Yet another day where I'm going to stay inside, work all day, join more Zoom meetings, read, write, then sleep."

Quarantine Day 41. After my half-successfully, half-fail attempt to run from home to Diablo on Sunday, I got on a video chat with Christie (these kinds of 1-1 non-work video chats and phone calls are definitely a hallmark of the Virus Age -- I've never done so many, so close before!) During the call, I took a look at my work schedule for this coming week.

Haruki Murakami: “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running”

Happily, I also got in for the second book: Murakami's What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. Here're some reactions and quotes that stuck with me.

Well, I didn't write a journal entry yesterday. That's OK, because so little happened yesterday that I don't even remember what happened. Sad.

Quarantine Day 38. Something I've started doing (again) these past couple weeks is establish a prioritized to-do list every morning. Ideally, I'd do this the night before (i.e. what I want to do the next day), but I've found that (a) I'm almost always too tired at the end of the night to plan, and (b) when I do make a to-do list for the next day, I almost always have eyes bigger than my mouth.

Quarantine Day 37. Compared to the Time Before The Coronavirus (and by extension, Self-Quarantine), my Thursdays seen the least change. That's because before the Coronavirus, I was already working from home on most Thursdays, at least since last fall.

      • My Strongest Weakness

A couple years ago, I participated in a career training "fellowship". One of my most vivid memories from this program came during its second week.

Quarantine Day 36. It seems like such a long time ago since the Shelter-In-Place Order was issued across the Bay Area. But, in fact, it's only been just over a month. It's become almost a running joke to be asked "how's your day?" and answer "the same as every other day." Or, ask "what you're doing this weekend?" and get the semi-amused reply: "the same as last week! staying at home."

        Journal: Monday, April 20, 2020

I’m feeling sad. And a bit embarrassed. I’m embarrassed because with everything that’s happening right now, with people losing their livelihoods and others losing their lives, I’ve got no reason to be selfishly sad.

        Auckland’s Volcanoes, Part 1

There's a lot that makes Auckland unique. But for me, its volcanic field tops the list. This is part 1 of 2 of a trip report to several of Auckland's most prominent peaks.
