Today, I had my first “real” relay race since high school track.
I was anxious. I’ve only averaged about 35 miles/week this past month. I didn’t know how I’d pace a 4.5 mile race, and I’ve never run Lake Merced until today!
But I’ve surprised myself! I thought I’d end up running closer to 6:20, was surprised to see myself averaging sub-6 for the first 5K, was not surprised that I started faltering over the last mile — but finished happy that I got something faster than my 6:12 half-marathon pace earlier this year (when I was training, at least more actively). I wasn’t really looking forward to this race. But now I can’t wait to run this again next year. 😁
